We have had so many experiences in all areas of our lives, where we have had ‘tennis messaging’. I always remember receiving an enquiry for my music business. There was certainly not enough information, but he had a phone number at the bottom of his email. I called this and he said the incredible words “I can’t speak: I’m at work” and this was a work related enquiry! We had 30 minutes of emails back and forth, that a 2 minute telephone conversation would have solved. It was everything from
“Where is the booking for?”
“Where in Yorkshire?”
“And the finish time?”
“I don’t know”
“Where in the North Riding?”
It went on and on. And was a waste of time for us both! Emails and text messages don’t always explain what you do; how you can help someone, and also to have a better knowledge of their challenge and whether you can help them.
Having the human connection in an automated world is so important. That is why I positively encourage people to book a call. This isn’t a hard sell on my part, but to really understand if we can help and also to recommend other options if necessary.
