Case Study: Delivering Virtual Workshop to a Global Professional Organisation

ACCA Global – Middle East invited Susan Heaton-Wright from SuperStar Communicator to deliver a one hour virtual workshop “Manage your Fear to Ensure You Show Up With Confidence”. This was to members of the ACCA community in the Middle East, although the invitation was opened globally. The discussion with the client highlighted that the members of the ACCA were highly educated. For the majority of the members, they speak English as their non-native language and they were mainly men.

What we did:

We recognised that there were cultural and language differences between the audience and Susan – who is female, from Europe and doesn’t speak Arabic – the native language of the majority of the audience. IN order to ensure the content and delivery style perfectly matched the audience we:

• Discussed at length the content and examples to be used in the workshop
• Discovered that Rugby Union and Tennis were very popular sports in UAE and would therefore be very useful for examples
• We allowed the client to check the slides and also the poll questions beforehand, to ensure the vocabulary was clear and that nothing could be misunderstood or offend
• Susan ensured the language and examples she used throughout the workshop were straightforward. She spoke slowly and clearly allowing those who speak English as their non-native language to be able to understand.

Results:

there was full engagement in the workshop; with many attendees commenting and asking questions. There were attendees who contacted Susan after the workshop to ask more private questions and to thank her. The client was delighted and has already booked SuperStar Communicator for further work.
