We all like receiving feedback. Certainly it is something I encourage people to ask people for. We can learn, grow our skills and even challenge ourselves to become better at what we do. We can also develop self evaluation skills which is invaluable.
However, what happens if you are asked to give feedback to someone else? There is a real art to this, that ensures you remain professional; constructive with your criticism and not make it personal.
Having survived the music business, where I’m afraid to say, come ‘feedback’ is fuelled by jealousy or wanting to crush the opposition, I am particularly keen to share ‘good practice’ in giving feedback. Giving feedback isn’t a chance for a “Bitchfest” but to take a step back from the person, not be personal, but add some value to what they are doing.
In this week’s Superstar Communicator podcast, I share top tips to giving feedback to colleagues, you boss, your family…. everyone.
Do let me know how you get on with your feedback, and if you have a challenging session giving feedback, do let me know! We can always do another podcast on this.
