Kate Middleton has morphed from pretty home counties girl to a Princess of the United Kingdom. Part of her job description is to engage with many international visitors to the United Kingdom as well as meeting people working for charities. Kate Middleton now speaks like a princess.
In the latest Superstar Communicator podcast, I analyse why Kate Middleton’s speaking style is perfect for her role, and what we can learn from her style to help us engage with our audiences. To accompany this podcast I have created a downloadable worksheet with top tips on how to develop your own ‘Princess’ voice. This is particularly useful for people who host or contribute on webinars, conference calls, podcasts and blogs. Download the worksheet here.
The three ways Kate makes her speech clear for her audiences are:
1. She speaks slowly
2. She has very good diction; enunciates and pronounces her words clearly making it easier for people – including those who speak English as a second language, to understand her.
3. She is careful with her use of language. She doesn’t speak slang (at least in public ha, ha!) or complicated vocabulary. Again it makes it easier for her audiences to understand her.
4. She therefore speaks like a princess
Of course this isn’t Rocket Science, but you would be amazed at how many people get this SO WRONG! So do listen to the podcast and start speaking like a Princess or Prince. Good luck!
