There are occasions where I support clients who are pitching for business or finance. It is a really exciting session for me: filled with tension and energy because of the pitch. And it is great to be part of the team for a small moment before an important conversation.
I often find that teams preparing to pitch spend a lot of time, quite rightly, considering the content of their pitch: the slides and what will be said. Of course in these high stressed events, the order of the slides is altered until the last minute. And dare I say it, practicing the pitch can be neglected within the ‘panic’ of getting everything ready. Then it is a last minute panic and the pitchers ‘wing’ the pitch.
I fully understand that a team wants to do their very best and also wishes to ensure the content is appealing to potential investors or clients. We all want to tweak pitches and presentations to avoid something important being omitted from the pitch. BUT if you don’t make the pitch engaging to the investors or potential clients, you could miss out!
And this is where I come in; I ensure the pitch is well delivered to investors or potential clients so they are very interested in what you have to say. This isn’t exclusively WHAT you say but HOW you perform the pitch.
In my latest VLOG I share how important it is to practice your pitch.
So if you are pitching for business or investment, remember people buy from people not shiny presentation slides. They want to be able to trust you; see you as human beings, so as well as the glitzy videos and slides there HAS to be something about you. Remember to spend some time practicing and perfecting your pitch to ensure you REALLY make an impact. These investors see plenty of start ups wanting investments and they can sense when a pitcher is ‘Winging’ it.
