Being visible online is something that is always recommended for executives. Yet what is often ignored, at the expense of one’s presence is visibility IN REAL LIFE, or IRL. In order to ensure we aren’t perceived as robots, with our own avatars, we need to be present IRL!
Recently I attended an event, where the CEO of a Multi-national company described how his team select future employees from 200 interns each year. Given that they have already been selected for intelligence and the course they are studying, there are other criteria that come into effect. The most important one was BEING INTERESTED AND BEING INTERESTING. IRL; not online.
This made me consider how we could be interesting and interested; IRL and of course, online. When we meet people they will check us online, to see what we do, so it is important to keep this updated. However, someone who is hiding behind a screen or phone is neither going to appear interested or interesting!
