Adapting new ways to make business marketing work is a challenge we have all had in the last year. So we were pleased to interview Chantal Cornelius from AppleTree Marketing on changing your marketing for a new business environment.
“When the world started going into lockdown. I noticed a lot of people in running small businesses going or we’re just going to hide for a few months, we’re going to sit this out and wait for it to go away and wait till we go back to normal. I’m not very good at sitting still and waiting for things to get better. So I took it upon myself to adapt my business, learn what I could do to make my business work in this kind of new online world.”

New Online business world and “ABC” of marketing.
In these uncertain times, businesses must adapt and revamp from offline mode to online trends. The “ABC” routes of marketing is a useful tool and work fairly well with anyone involved in service business either online or offline.
First, ‘A’ stands for referrals and recommendations. It is one of the best ways to grow the business. Trust plays a vital role in the service-based industry. The best way to increase customer base is building trust in a new customer and here comes a recommendation. If new clients get recommendations from the old clients regarding the service provider, the likely hood of getting new customers increases. Precisely, reach out to old clients and get recommendations as much as possible. Recommendations are still possible in this new virtual world through social media sources like LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram business etc.
Next, ‘B’ is a business networking and it also includes speaking. To build a relationship by speaking online, sharing advice and getting noticed. It acts as a powerful tool in growing the business.
Last, ‘C’ is for content. In terms of spoken words, the best way is through videos. So use videos of tips, advice, and interviews for networking events. Share them, so that when somebody is recommended to you they can actually see you speak online, through your website, LinkedIn profile, and get real examples of you speaking, and how impactful you are.
You’re not being paid to speak. You can still use that to promote your business, and build trust but always check for the right audience and less of pitching.
Speaking is a great idea to build a network, and grow a business. I always vouched for going in interviews, podcasts, LinkedIn live etc as it best way of marketing your brand. However, the essential trick over here is the audience and less of raving. Despite you are not being paid to speak. You can still use that to promote your business giving them rather more appropriate tips and advice and less of pitching, but always check for the relevant audience. Make sure whoever is listening, is right, and are of an area where you are wanted to be seen.It is significantly important, otherwise, you can spend an awful lot of time doing lots speaking and interviewing people who are never going to buy from you. Leaving you behind with a warm, fuzzy feeling on doing it.
Join a professional organization and demonstrate your speaking and build trust.
If you are thinking about speaking, join some professional organisations that could offer to do a speech or to share some tips. Also, if they’re having a panel discussion, try so that you could be one of the people on the panel discussion. This will facilitate you with an opportunity to demonstrate how good you are and building up trust. In short, look for events where your clients are going to be that will really show off your expertise and your experience.
So concluding this podcast regarding marketing and spoken communication and adapting your business to make it work in this new online world. ‘ABC’ of marketing can act as an efficient tool in pitching your business. Ask for recommendations, build a business relationship by standing out and emphasize the content. Moreover, speak to market your brand, and build trust by selecting an appropriate audience and providing them with the tricks and techniques that benefit them, emphasizing less on raving on your own fabulous business.
