A media appearance, whether it is on the radio or TV is a great opportunity to promote your business or your own brand. However, an appearance will have a more positive outcome and result, if you have some training and a framework. Sitting in a TV or radio studio is nerve-wracking, particularly if you haven’t done this before, so a training session is invaluable preparation.
This was the case for one of my lovely clients, who was asked to represent both her company and a charity that she is a trustee of. Being interviewed on the radio was a daunting prospect for her, but as ever, her charm, strength of character, desire to do well and diligence meant the results were always going to be good.
The training I provided for her, enabled her to remain focused on the interview; familiarise her with the environment; mentally prepare herself for the interview; relaxation techniques and planning what her message would be.
I am delighted the interviews were a great success and I received the following message from her:
I just had to write and let you know that I’ve done, not one, but TWO telephone interviews; one being live! And I survived! (Live interview for BBC Three Counties Radio and NHS Direct promotional DVD).
Thank you so much for giving me the courage to say ‘yes’. I enjoyed being asked but even when it came to the real thing I surprised myself in being able to take time to think even though I’d had limited preparation time – I just took things a little slower than I used to – and did my breathing beforehand.
Warm wishes – and thanks again” G Kemp, Director Otodynamics Ltd.
From my perspective; hearing the successes of my clients is invaluable for me. What do you think?
